Are there any tutorials available where they start from installing a virtuemart template and show step by step until they have made a fully functioning webshop?
If not I would appreciate any good links to some good virtuemart tutorials.

There are several books about VirtueMart 2 (http://lmgtfy.com/?q=books+about+Virtuemart+2) in English, French, German and possibly other languages. "Installing a template" is no different from installing any Joomla template, and it is advised to have a good working knowledge of Joomla CMS before adding in a major component like VirtueMart.
