I want to use Virtuemart as a catalogue with product links to external affiliate marketplaces. So far I can not find a custom field to make this happen.
For example I want to create a custom image field with iTunes icon...attach to product...clicking that icon links to iTunes marketplace.
It seems to me the easiest way would be to use the image custom field as a non-cart variant and add the links. But by default the
there is no option to add links to the image custom field.
Am I missing something here? What is the best way to accomplish this? Another field type?

No it isn't using links
It is used as a variant to an existing products.
Maybe you have to modify it a bit if you want it to be a link.
Also you can always include that in the product description
