We have a new name! After a long discussion we have decided to rename the project mambo-phpShop to
VirtueMart
The new name will be used for the next major release of our beloved shop script. It will be introduced into the source code step by step.
Due to the name change we will be moving to http://virtuemart.net soon.
Why?
mambo-phpShop is a combination of two trademarks: "Mambo" and "phpShop", which both are protected by the trademark owners. I have planned a name change before, but as Joomla! forked from Mambo and following the Joomla project is our decision, we had to think of a completely new name.
Compatibility!
As I wrote in an earlier article, you can be sure that future versions will maintain backward compatiblity or at least the possibility to update from mambo-phpShop to a newer version easily. This is priority no. 1.
Developers
Please note that the project space on sourceforge.net will be moving from http://sourceforge.net/projects/mambo-phpshop/ to
http://sourceforge.net/projects/virtuemart/. This means that the CVS (source code repository) moves from one project space to the new one. The new CVS details:
CVS Server: cvs.sourceforge.net
CVSROOT: /cvsroot/virtuemart
Module Name: virtuemart
To provide a seamless step between both CVS repositories I have labeled the last version of mambo-phpShop with a tag "virtuemart-2005-09-06". You will find exactly this version to start at the new CVS repository.

I really like the new name and also the fact that does not tie it to any other name. Long live VirtueMart ;D
An explanation is not as easy as with "Joomla".
It just sounds good and the positive meaning of "virtue" has let us decide to choose it for the new mart's name.
The meaning of virtue can be:
healing force
honestly
the advantage
the value
effective / effect
so it's nothing that can be sold...

ok I've done my first joomla installation...
all the db table are renamed with the prefix jos_ instead of mos_
how this could affect virtuemart ? will it work correctly ?
