Title: Create On Sale sign when product is discounted

I'd like to create an On Sale sign as a sort of banner on the discounted product. See attached images for examples of how it want it to display.

I'd know how to do this in css, but I'm not sure how to implement it in Virtuemart, so it appears automatically when a product is discounted.

Can any coders out there help me achieve this? :)
