Title: Price Cloning - Still no solution
Post by: IntrepidClassChicken on April 13, 2013, 07:17:08 AM
Hi Folks,

I have about 150 products to add. All the same price. All with the same Retail and Wholesale pricing structure and rules. It is for a tile manufacturing business I am a part of.

To save time and effort (supposedly), I am adding each of them by cloning the previous product then updating the name and image. I am organised so I have quite a good workflow for that. But none of the prices get cloned.

I have searched the forums and found just one entry from mid 2012 asking for a solution to the same problem.

Has anyone found a solution yet?

Your help is appreciated :)

You're right. It is a bug and I will fix it for the next version.

Fantastic!

I am glad it is being addressed. Thank you for your support.

I will persist for now.

I think the problem I am seeing is related to this thread.  I have installed 2.0.20b

Similarly, my client has hundreds of items that are all very similar. Typically an item has 5 children which pertain to clothing sizes. Since they are priced differently and each has a different SKU I am using the "Generic Child" varient in the custom settings.

WhenI adding the children under the parent this produces a nice drop down menu and works as expected, but this method is extremely tedious.

It seems to me that I should be able to clone the parent in the main menu and use the "child" button to associate them. This seems to work functionally except that all the cloned data is lost, price, weight, photos, pretty much everything but the title.

I can't even tell if I am not following a correct procedure, the link for the documentation results in a 404 error.

With the "child" button you can create a child product, but you can't assign the product with this button to another product.

You know that it is intended that the values of the child is empty and that you must check it in the FE. Please read this http://docs.virtuemart.net/manual/17-products-menu/33-product.html I wrote it yesterday.

and please tell which link is not working.

In the control panel for Virtuemart, the documentation button links to:

http://virtuemart.net/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=248&Itemid=125
Which generates a 404 error.
