Title: Set Safe Path outside Joomla Root
Post by: ginniss on December 04, 2012, 16:52:23 PM
Hi

Following the advice in other posts on this topic, I tried created a safe path folder outside of the Joomla root - path entered correctly in Virtuemart config (leading and ending /) and permissions set correctly (even tried 777 at one point to see if it would work).  However, I kept getting the "Warning:safe path is empty" message.  As soon as I moved the folder to the httpdocs root everything worked fine.

For security reasons, I would rather not leave this folder in the Joomla root.  I assume there is a problem with server settings? Is this an owner/group issue? Any idea where to look?

Kind Regards

Some shared hosts set their servers not to permit a script to access below root. Looks like you are on one of them.

Option then is to use some unguessable directory name for the safepath base directory.

My site is on a VPS, not shared by other websites.  In principle, I can configure the server any way I like. Any suggestions regarding config changes?

Kind Regards

You can put the directory into the administration directory of joomla, or outside, but then you must know how todo it, if your provider did not already configured it that way.
