I'm gotten behind in my updates of Virtuemart. I'm on 2.0.6 using Joomla 2.5.7. I trying to get catch up to 2.0.12. can I go straight to 2.0.12 or do I need to go through each release 2.0.7a - 2.0.7f, 2.0.8., etc. I doing it on test database but I'm mostly concern with changes to database that will be missed

Yes you can go straight to vm2012f.
First take a backup to your site, using akeeba backup free edition is a great option. From vm206 to 2012 there are changes on the templates and you should edit them also to meet the last template changes. You will find those changes here: http://virtuemart.net/index.php?option=com_content&id=416
Also there is layoutchanges.zip files after 208 (exactly from your current version) that will show you exactly the areas that the code have been changed. Those are images comparing to previous versions will help you to update your template overrides easy.

I see that version 2.0.14 is out now. Can I go straight to 2.0.14 with the template changes etc.

of course you could upgrade to 2.0.14 by your should make all template changes to your custom templates from version 2.0.x to 2.0.14, 2.0.14 have some small changes easily and have could be applied.
