Title: Sales Tax In WA and CA
Post by: nickwiebe on November 01, 2012, 20:50:13 PM
WA and CA have many different sales tax rates depending on what zip code or county the customer is in.  I have been looking for way to handle this in VirtueMart, but am not finding any real solutions.  How can you have different sales tax rates for the same State when VM doesn't give you a zipcode field when setting up a tax rule?  Is there a module or component out there that you can add to VM2 that can help with this dilema?

I'm using Joomla 1.5 and VM 2.0.12.

Any help on this subject would be much appreciated.

I also need to have the ability to add a sales tax in by ZIP code.  Colorado allows its counties to set their own sales tax rates.  I must be able to calculate the sales tax by zip codes.  When will Virtuemart offer this functionality back in?  this is URGENT for me.

In Colorado here.  I'm also looking for either a core or licensed solution which allows for setting up taxes by zip codes. Has anyone got a solution or a workaround until a core solution is available?

I have upgraded to Joomla 2.5 and latest version of VirtueMart, but still no solution for setting up multiple tax rates for Washington State.  Is there anybody out there that can help with this?  Nobody wants to even talk about this subject it seems.

HELP!

www.taxcloud.net is a service that maintains this information. Some other eCommerce programs such as ZC have it successfully integrated. I think this is still under discussion for VM which is why I had to change horses and move to another solution.

bobmeetin, as you know Geekhead has discussed development of a new component/addon for this, but enough of you have to be interested to make it commercially viable for them to do it.

I just caught up with the use of the included VM Avalara Tax plugin - this appears to do exactly what you want. The tutorial is on http://docs.virtuemart.net/tutorials/28-plugins-payment-shipment-and-others/75-configure-avatax

I don't see AVATAX in my plug-in list...no VM - Calculation.  Didn't seem to come in with my Virtuemart installation, i'm using VM 2.0.18a.  Is there a place to download this plugin?

thanks,

Nick

Avalara Tax plugin is included in the 2.0.18a aio component (the second of the install packages) so should certainly be installed. I believe that by default it is unpublished, so if you cannot see it you may need to use J2.5's  extension discover facility.

Thanks, I wasn't on the latest version of aio, now I see it :).  Will give this a try.

Pleased to annouce this VM2.0 TaxCloud plugin has now been approved by TaxCloud (they will be announcing this shortly) and is available for download.

and their service is completely free - the states pay taxCloud for this service so us as end users don't pay..
