I was able to use the joomla login module BT LOGIN MODULE VERSION 2.4.0 and it logs into both the joomla section and the virtuemart section if you create a user menu. Not sure if that will solve your particular need but it worked for us. It's free in the extension area of Joomla.org but I think it requires registration.

VirtueMart uses Joomla's user system, so you can publish Joomla's mod_login if that suits your setup.

i use the BT LOGIN MODULE VERSION 2.4.0 , but i can't find a way to integrated this module with virtuemart and to make that Registration tab point to the virtuemart registration form
