I'm fairly new to Virtuemart and my client has asked a few questions, is Virtuemart (with Joomla 2.5) capable of the following;
"multiple options for each listing i.e , for colour, sizing or size options etc"
"I am wondering about offering a sale freight free if the buyer recommends my website to say 5 friends – can we do this?"
"Also I want my customers to have to log in and in the log in process I want to know if they are going to a school ball and if so which school – can we do this."
I would appreciate your advise

1. Custom fields can be set up colour, size selection etc.
2. You can use coupons or apply free freight to a shopper group. You may have to write a plugin to handle recommendations or use an affiliate plugin. There are many options depending on your skill level.
3. You can add shopper fields for completion at registration.
