Hello,

Joomla 3 hasn't yet released (may be early this day - 27/09). Joomla V3 is not an LTS release, 3.5 will be (and need time until then). At the moment the LTS (long-term-support) release of joomla is 2.5 until 2014. Joomla 1.5 has reached end of life and will not more get supported.

So, there is no need to harry, but vm2 will be compatible with joomla 3/3.5, cause mostly changes in joomla 3 have to do with the UI (user interface experience) using twitter bootstrap css libraries.

btw, i haven't test it with joomla 3 beta

Regards

Is Joomla 3 bug free yet? That's the time to start testing.

And note the Joomla community advice - Joomla 2.5 is currently the recommended version for existing sites and will remain so until the release of 3.5

Apart from the UI changes, VM should change some of the Joomla api functions it is using, which are already deprecated in J2.5 (platform 11.4).
http://docs.joomla.org/What%27s_new_in_Joomla_1.6#Developers

If VM do the required changes to use non-deprecated functions in j2.5, it won't have much difficulties upgrading to 3.0 and 3.5.
To happen this, i think that it should stop the support of Joomla 1.5. It is almost impossible to support 3 joomla versions simultaneously

Although I knew that it currently won't work, I've just updated a copy of my current Joomla 2.5.7/VM2-SVN installation to Joomla 3.0 (just for fun - since this only takes a few minutes). Result: Of course it doesn't work, but I can see some of the things that need to be adjusted.
The Joomla 3.0 list of possible backward compatibility issues is quite long...
http://docs.joomla.org/Potential_backward_compatibility_issues_in_Joomla_3.0_and_Joomla_Platform_12.1 (http://docs.joomla.org/Potential_backward_compatibility_issues_in_Joomla_3.0_and_Joomla_Platform_12.1)

PS: Possibly I will need more time to get used to the new stuff in J3.0 than the VM2 devs will need to make VM2 work in J3.0  ;D

First of all VM should become fully compatible with 2.5 without using deprecated functions  (platform 11.4). All the deprecated functions has been removed from the 3.0 (platform 12.1)

If this happen the transition will be really easy to 3.0

And note the warning on joomla.org to update every 6 months for each STR version - so by the time people get used to it it will be upgrade time again.......

The fixes to VM2 do seem relatively easy, but support for J1.5 must be dropped (and a good thing, too).

Added: just found this server setup checker - we know that a lot of VM users are on servers which have old PHP versions which will not support J3.  https://github.com/mbabker/J30UpgradeCheck

Hi is there any news about the future support/compat for joomla 3.0, i mean i dont see that is too soon to ask for this now, just looking as other e-commerce components (http://extensions.joomla.org/extensions/e-commerce) seems to be working in the j3 support (at least on an early stage) like hika and joomshopping, on the other hand also  JSST(http://developer.joomla.org/security.html) already announced support for j2.5 till 2013 December

Hi guys,
Thank you for all the hard work on VM... I haven't used it for a while and was pleasantly surprised reading all the positive reviews on the Joomla Extension directory - what an awesome turn-around from a couple years back.
I would echo murdok's comment that it is not too soon to look at J3.0 and VM. Folks are certainly considering J3.0 for new sites (I know I am - just the responsive framework is solely worth it in the mobile age) and am also looking at other eCom extensions.

I mean no pressure, just trying to assess the options here - is VM for J3.0 a month away or half a year? I'm willing to pitch in some $$ for dev/donation (do so for all non-commercial extensions after I deploy them on commercial sites).

Thank you so much for any info on this.

Olá galera, assim que definirem um virtuemart compatível e sem erros/bugs, me avisem, ou se tiverem um link com algum projeto que deu certo publiquem no forum que irei testar.
A versão do Joomla que estou usando é 3.3.6.

Willams did you try to search the forum or even look for VirtueMart news?  There is a link to a recent RC of VirtueMart3 in http://virtuemart.net/news/latest-news/464-virtuemart-2-6-12-is-released-special-realex-offer ,  there are files for testing on  http://dev.virtuemart.net/projects/virtuemart/files  and test reports can be posted on http://forum.virtuemart.net/index.php?board=136.0

8)Thanks, I was using the virtuemart for joomla 2.5, came out more like the new version, I'll use, as the old virtuemart was buggy, thank you for the answers, thank you all.
