I apologise in advance if I repeat what anyone has asked. I am posting this because I am hoping someone will have an answer that will help.
I have Virtuemart 2.0.8e integrated with Joomla 2.5.6, and have installed a drop down cart. The server where the site is not working is using PHP 5.2.14. The site is only in development stages so I'm kind of grateful that I can sort his without being live. You can see the problem at this link. www.culturaltrading.com/development
I'm having some issues getting products to add to the cart. If a product is selected to add to cart the modal popup appears, with a message saying the product has been added to the cart. But then it does not show in the cart. From what I have read there is a conflict happening but I'm not sure where to start or how to even sort it.
The site is also installed locally on my computer in MAMP, running PHP 5.4.4, and this version is seems to work ok.

The PHP version on the production server is too old - J2.5 requires at least PHP5.2.4 ( http://www.joomla.org/technical-requirements.html ) and really is better on 5.3+

I moved my site to a new server with PHP 5.3.2, and MySQL 5.095 after finding out the server it was on wasn't a suitable platform. I was hoping that might solve the issues with the items not adding to the cart. Unfortunately no. The live site still does not add the items to the cart, and the drop down does not work. Whereas the exact same site installed locally in MAMP on my computer does. It really has me stumped. This morning I uploaded the MAMP installation of the site to the online server to check how it works there, but no, same problem, the items won't add to the cart on the server. I mean it is a copy of the site on the server, and a long shot to check it. I'm wondering if there is a specific setting that may need to be changed on the server, and if any one would have any ideas? I have a programmer de-bugging the site looking for the problem, but I'm not absolutely certain it is the site now. ALthough there Javascript bugs are less, there is no solution for the cart yet.
By the way, I love the captcha used in this forum, is it open source?
You could check the server error logs to see if anything is shown there.
I think you may need to disable all site elements except for VirtueMart - such as the slider module and possibly the superfish menu in order to try to eliminate potential conflicts. Also try a different template.
The captcha is from Simple Machines, included in the forum software. For my Joomla sites I use the one from here: https://www.keycaptcha.com/
