have you upgraded from vm1? what version of vm2 you have, joomla version? php version?
joomla 1.5 23 virtuemart 2 and php5.2

i am not familiar running VM2 on joomla 1.5.x, may be some else could help you.
btw, try to upgrade your php to 5.3 and also check again the tread i give you on my previous post ... that thread says that may be you have modules from your previous vm1 installation, or parts of thme ... are you sure that you tried it? also you could try to backup vm, vm tables, vm medias, remove everything, reinstall vm and restore your data.
also you can consider to go to joomla 2.5
