Why such an essential feature as downloadable product that were FREE in VM1 is now an option in VM2.0? and you have to pay for it?

EXACTLY!
In my opinion this is ridiculous. The goal here should be to fix bugs, update existing features or add new features as development continues with VirtueMart. To take away something that was integrated in previous versions after thousands of sites have set up with downloadable products is pure stupidity. I wonder if there are kickbacks involved? Sorry about the rant but I just can't believe it.
