After upgrading virtuemart from 1.1 to 2.0.6 I've run into a plethora of problems.

I'm developing fixes for the site locally, but have run into an error I can't get around. When I have an item in my cart, and I try to add/edit a billing or shipping address, I am taken to an access forbidden error page. Currently I am running joomla 1.5.22 as I tried upgrading to the latest joomla but my theme doesn't support it (and even after I get the theme working, megamenu refuses to show up!). Any help or pointers would be greatly appreciated as I'd like to get my website back up and running.

It sounds like you are using incompatible versions of the template, shop and Joomla. If you try to fix each problem individually it will take you a VERY long time and possibly never.
I would set up a fresh Joomla and VirtueMart, find a template that is close to what I want and just tweak that. I am sorry I cannot give you a better answer.
