Where  can I change the "sales price"  listed with the product to just Price. Familiar with editing PHP code.

I hope this is right as are you asking where can I change the wording "sales price " to the word "price"?

If so then you need to be in the file system>>languages>>en-GB.com_virtuemart.ini >> about line 379 ?
