Use PHP 5.3  - there are a couple of issues with 5.4

Yes, but you should be using VM2.6.10  ( http://virtuemart.net/news/latest-news/462-security-release-of-vm2-6-10-and-vm2-9-9b )

This PHP version thread was from 2.5 years ago! Lots of progress since then.
