Another newbie question.
Can the shopowner respond to a product review in VM2?
For example; a client states in a review that although they like their new purchase it would have helped to have more images of it during the purchase decision.
Could the shop owner then edit the review at a later time to add a response like, "Thanks for your feedback. We have added some additional images to this product as per your suggestion."

Did some trials and it appears you can edit the customer reviews so that a response can be added, however, this is not configured as a response but just becomes part of the review.
This might be a reasonable solution if the response could be on a separate line from the orginal review but VirtueMart currently treats all the text entered as a single string even if I place the response on a different line using the return key.
Is there an alternate product comments system or other suitable plugin for VirtueMart (free or commercial) that could provide the additional functionality?

Lastly, can the person who submitted the original review be notified of the update via their registered email address?

Want you want is not part of the core ..
for response just surround it in a div and style it so it becomes "separate" visually ?
