Automate Synchronise Media to Virtuemart

Howdy

I have my products set up in Virtuemart to have an option of having a custom field that is "file Type" COM_VIRTUEMART_IMAGE.  This is used for adding downloadable spec sheets by uploading a pdf, the synchronising media to Virtuemart then setting file type as downloadable.

I have CSVI all set up populating new products, cron job set up to automate any new files once per day (it is a pretty dynamic site and changes every day).

So I am now looking to skip the tedious and frankly annoying process of having to manually go in and press the button to synchronise the media and set file type to downloadable.  Is there no way of automating the process or changing core files that will allow this to happen automatically for pdf files just as it does for normal images?
