Adding stock level in product page field

Dear all,

I try to add the nice looking stock level as image to the product page field as well..
i encounter though various problems

the string in the category field
"$product->stock->stock_level" does not work although i change it to "$this->stock->stock_level"
i also tried variations like...

$this->stock_level
$product->stock_level

anyone has solved it?
