coupon codes not working

I've got a problem with coupon codes not working on Virtuemart version 1.1.9a installed on Joomla 2.5 .  I'm getting a 404 component not found error page on submit.  I've made a few suggested changes to the forms action attribute, but get the same 404 error everytime.  I've also checked the javascript onsubmit function against a fresh file to ensure it hadn't been changed.  Everything is in order it appears but just doesn't process the coupon code entry.  I'm considering updating to a newer version of virtuemart, but would much rather not have to do that at this point.  Please help!!
