Hi, I am relatively new to joomla and completely new to virtuemart.

From what i understand, the new version VM2 is going to be released soon but currently a pre-release build RC2 (version H?) is available.

My question is, if I set up my store site right now with the pre-release build, can i upgrade to the stable build once its released without losing my stored products, settings etc?

Will the update process be one-click or is it something complicated?

Thanks a lot for your help and I look forward to using VM :)

Milbo

Yes, except some parts of the variants are not done yet.

Thanks for your reply

Sorry to ask again but I'm still not sure whether ill be able to update seamlessly from the pre-release build to the stable release.

I suppose what Milbo means is that if you start with basic products (without product variants), the 1-click update should work. Otherwise it might be slightly more complicated. VM2 has buttons for updating the VM2 code to the latest version and another button for updating the database tables, in case there is a change.

You can learn how it works if you install VM2 version RC1.9.8H and then update it to RC1.9.8i

jjk let me understand... do u say that for update VM i need to use live update for files and then update the sql tables with database tool "update/Install tables or if necessary update them"?

jjk

I think normally live update is able to include database updates if you update i.e. from RC1.9.8h to RC1.9.8i and 'update/install tables or if necessary update them' usually is only relevant if you work with the SVN version from the SVN repository.
