I make a full turn of all solution out there and coming back To VM.

That will be my first project with VirtueMart and I'm a little bit uneasy...   ???
What I need here is a little bit of advice or warning to make my idea about going after that project.

I'm a web developer, (only Joomla for the last 5 years)

A customer ask me for a big web site with commercial abilities (only quotes - no money transactions for now)

My abilities:
• I have excellent knowledge with html, Joomla, css
• really basics knowledge in Php/java/javascript
• I can rapidly modify php/js files, just by looking a their structure (fast learner)
• I have a very light experience and knowledge with VirtueMart. (only see the administration and install one time, few years ago)

What I need advice on:
1— I need to know if VM correspond at what I need.

2— If You think (with my abilities) I will be able to do that project. (an estimation of time will be great (just install the shop, section & categories, products page (one demo page by categorie, customization, testing) Take out the filling of the shop with the data (products).

3— If I run into trouble or need somme customization, what kind (and cost) of support I can get.

Overview of the Shop:
This company sell High end technology products for structural testing and investigation

1— The shop will have between 10 to 20 main sections, each section can have subsections and/or direct access to the a products page that can have 3 to 15 products with each products having 0 to 8 options attach to it. All of these products or/and options need a good info text and images.

2— Each of this products and each of the options should have a (Request Quote) button that will add the quote request to the cart. (NO PRICES - NO MONEY TRANSACTIONS on this site)

3— An accordion menu with "unlimited" sub-levels will always be on the left and the shop on the right.
(I'm using this one, I need the exact same abilities —>  http://demo.izerosoft.com/modules/demo-level-12.html
(Working with the normal joomla menu system)

4— The shop is completely bilingual (English-French) — Joomfish

Example of a user asking for a quote — Process.

a) Click on left button (Section x) e.g. (see menu at http://demo.izerosoft.com/modules/demo-level-12.html)

b) Choose sub-category of (Section x) Section x —> Category one

c) Category one bring the page (Category one) on the right page
The left menu have an active state that always show where the user are —> Category one in Section X

d) The right page have 1,2,3 or more pages (with bottom-top page navigation) showing the products and their options, each of this products and products options have a "Need a Quote button"

e) Clicking the quote button only add that quote to the cart and stay on the same page (remember that it can be in the second page or third page of the Section-category (Joomla Page Break?)

Here a note (Modal box? — joomla system notification?) will appear saying you quote was added successfully.
The cart module, that will stay on top of the Menu will show that a product was added and the "Send quote button"

f) The user can navigate and add products

G) pressing the "Send quote button" will present the user with the review of all his quotes with the possibility to go back for new quote or delete the one he don't want.

H) After his choice made pressing a "Send Quote button" will send at least one nice html email (with roll back if html is not accepted (mostly user side) with all details of the quotes to the site manager(s) and one copy to the user.
Note: The possibility to send, to the user choice to a third address will be cool.

I) A personalized message appear (Modal box? — joomla system notification?) Your quote was successfully sent. We will answer, bla,bla......)

Other niceties:
• become transparently member of a list— Gestion, history, organisation, print, export(for mailing)
• Flexible cart user information with custom fields and required fields — choices of Captcha
• Gestion, history, organisation, print, export by date for the quote/transaction and if quote was answered-pending. (maybe reminder to administrators)
• Possibility to print one page, (or better) one item or a range in a section in the shop
• Send page url or better product infos to email by the user

Sorry for the long post.... But I need reinforcement that I can do something like this  with VM...

Thanks

I add 2 images {Step 1 and Step2) that represent the door of the shop (Step 1) and a landing page (Step 2) to give a rough idea of the look.

Yes, I have almost the exact same requirement. No costs for products, no checkout, only request a quote, to be changed to a full ecommerce solution later. but how to have a zero fee checkout process that has all products, and no cost for each product, can add multiple qtys to the cart/quote and then checkout/send the request for quote as the checkout process without shipping and with out credit card payment methods.. ANY HELP PLEASE!

Unfortunately what the original poster is asking for needs a significant amount of time from someone. I am not sure if anyone will be able to offer this amount of time for free.

I think with those requirements the best option would be to pay an experienced VM developer to do the job for you, or spend some time researching the possibilities with VM.

Thanks Mike.

What I did.....

I install a joomla template with virtuemart already integated and I digg in. Not all easy but I was surprise to fairly rapidly understand the processes and make already good customization. I'm not so scared anymore.
I can do that!

Dressale, I tink the best thing to do is to find a joomla template with VM install it on a wamp or mamp locale installation and just try. You will probably find what you can do or at least pinpoint the possible problems.

Or you can install it yourself, but I prefer the first ways because the template providers know the system well and already modify what always need to be modified.
You waist less time....
