[SOLVED] modules not showing on right category pages
« on: September 08, 2010, 15:31:21 PM »
Hello Virtuemart Community :)

Ok I'll try and explain my problem.

For each of my first level categories I'm using a Slideshow display, which is different for every category.
This works fine for the first four categories but then for the last 2 it just seems to select the mod for either cat two or three.

I've kinda got a feeling its something to do with the "multiple 'Itemid' issue"  which I had on the top menu but used external linking method in the top menu instead of virtuemart menu.

Don't suppose anyone can point me in the right direction for a fix.

----

here's what i've searched for in the forums

modules not showing on right category pages

module showing on wrong pages

module menu assignment isn't working

not quite sure what else to look for ???

You can use metamod to do this.

Hi Jenkin

Thats an awesome and very powerful module that I'll no doubt use at some point in the future.  However it doesn't sort out my problem :(

I can place modules with it on other pages and on the first few categories of my virtuemart store - however it will not place the module I wish on the last 2 categories.

here's the page for the categorie that isn't displaying the module it should http://www.escapesurfboards.com/index.php?option=com_virtuemart&page=shop.browse&category_id=27&Itemid=53

Any other suggestions anyone?

I think this will be an Item ID issue. Have a look at http://forum.virtuemart.net/index.php?topic=67767.msg230435#msg230435

Thanks Jenkin

i couldn't quite get my head around what was being said.

M needs a master link, which should not be a category or anything. The first link you make to VM (be it a category or a product) in Joomla menu will be what VM uses for all Itemid.

1. You should have created a link to VM, and called it "Store" or "Shop" or something. Then create links to categories, etc, all you want to.

Solution: Find your link with itemid 52 (which should currently be a VM link with parameters), and label that Store, and make the link just a regular VM link (no parameters). Then make another link that idtemid 52 used to be.

With your SEF on, I cannot really troublehsoot more.

but what worked for me was to take down all my menu items that link to the store.  then make a new 'accessories' category which had the id of '1 and then move all the sub cats over. Then rebuilt my menus.  and all works fine now.

That's the way to do it.
