Encrypting User Fields - Can I do it?
« on: February 10, 2010, 02:11:34 am »
I have a client that needs to collect social security numbers along with a alot of other data during the "check out" process in order to provide credit repair services to people who purchase.  I have added all of the fields for the data I need to collect in the "User Fields" to be collected when the user completes the "user registration" during the purchase process.

The problem I have is that when someone makes a purchase, the social is emailed out with the user registration.  Is there a way to encrypt the email or better yet leave fields out of the email confirmation sent out.  I want to make sure that any information provided by the clients is protected.

I am open to any suggestions to collecting the necessary data even if it doesn't involve using the "user fields".  This just seemed to be the best solution to me.

Thanks in advance for any help or advice you can provide, even if it involves a completely different approach...as long as it isn't too hard.  I a "newb".  ;).

I this may help, you can purchase a ssl cert and set it up to activate during the checkout process just go to virtuemart admin/configuration/security and SECUREURL click https.

Your hosting provider may have https setup already, just ask.

Hope this helps and im not totally off track.
