ERROR: Unable to find Install Package
« on: December 06, 2008, 00:10:41 am »
Ok so I downloaded "Virtuemart_1.1.2_COMPLETE_PACKAGE.J15.zip"

I unpacked this and had 2 folders "modules" and "plugins" and 1 zip file "com_virtuemart_1.1.2.j15" and the PDF installation guide (which I followed). ;)

I have installed Joomla 1.5.8 and logged in to the administration end of my site.  I went to "extentions", then "install/uninstall" I then browsed for the file "com_virtuemart_1.1.2.j15" and clicked "upload file and install".

I got the following error message:

In the red box at the top.

There was an error uploading this file to the server.

underneath that it said:

Unable to find install package

Can some one help me please?

Try the remote installation download from here:http://dev.virtuemart.net/cb/proj/doc/displayWikiDocument.do?doc_id=1619

Failing that, the eCommerce bundle is always an easy option.

Hi,

Thank you, I went with the bundle and have been getting along at a cracking pace now.  ;D

Small bump in the road with the shipping module so off now to ask a question in the shipping forum LOL.   ::)

Cheers

J.

Try the remote installation download from here:http://dev.virtuemart.net/cb/proj/doc/displayWikiDocument.do?doc_id=1619

I tried this method (after failing a download and install), and I receive the error "Unknown Archive Type". I too am fairly newb to Joomla, and I have installed dozens of modules without error or problem so far, but this one does not install at all. The upload file package seems to fail because of size (did not know about that until now) and the URL now says unknown type.

So, I consider myself a fairly smart person, but cannot make this work, so what am I missing here? How do I actually get this to work without having to installed individual components by hand and running some other scripts and complex actions just to make it work? Or is that simply not possible?

And could someone explain to me why this module of all the ones I have tried requires such hoop jumping? (Would that be hoopla jumping?) Just curious.  Oh yea, my system info. Maybe something is wrong here?

Database Version:    5.0.45-Debian_1ubuntu3.1-log
Database Collation:    utf8_general_ci
PHP Version:            5.2.3-1ubuntu6.3
Web Server:            Apache/2.2.4 (Ubuntu)
                        PHP/5.2.3-1ubuntu6.3
Web Server to PHP interface:    apache2handler
Joomla! Version:    Joomla! 1.5.8 Production/Stable

Thanks in advance.

hello all,

i am also getting the same problem Scrap is getting.

i'm trying to install Virtuemart 1.1.2 on Joomla 1.5.8. I'm using WAMP 2, php v5.2.6 and mySQL v5.0.51b.

when i try to install the component in joomla, it gives me the error, "Unable to find install package", when i try to use the remote install with the url: "http://dev.virtuemart.net/cb/proj/doc/details.do?doc_id=2258" i get the error "failed to open stream". i read the install manual first and i'm sorta stuck. i was able to install the modules and the plugins no problem. any help would be appreciated as i'm really excited to use virtuemart because i heard it was great!

thanks,

sam

Hi Sam

Try VirtueMart eCommerce Bundle (w. Joomla! 1.5.8) you can download it from here:http://virtuemart.net/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=54&Itemid=147

As this comes with Joomla I suggest you create a new database and start from fresh. I also recommend to install the sample data when the option is presented to you during installation.

Have fun.

I had the same initial error as Scrap: "Unable to find install package".  What finally worked for me was to adjust my PHP.ini  (I went ahead and set at 10M, although 4M might work...)

Here is the code:

upload_max_filesize = 10M

Good luck everybody.

I have tried every single method above and am still getting the error message "Unable to Find Install Package"

I manually eventually get the component installed manually, but I kept getting the errors for the modules, and those wouldn't upload either, even after changing my php.ini file.

I cleared my cache and tried downloading the version from the remote server install and the component finally installed again.  However, I still can't install any modules.
