Modifying shopping cart to order free samples only

Hi all - VERY newbie here - been working with a guy who knows more than me (not too hard!) but who can't answer this one...  We are using the VM shopping cart and attempting to modify it so that orders for desired samples of various items can accumulate in it, then be reviewed/edited, and ultimately sent to the company.  There are no for-pay samples available, only freebies, and only registered users can even get to that portion of the site - so is there a way to get rid of the registration aspect of the shopping cart (which - confusingly - makes users duplicate info we already have, since they are logged in)?  Also, can I alter what is displayed (SKU #, etc) so that no price columns appear to the user (confusing, if they assume that samples are free) and/or so column headings (i.e., "SKU #") read otherwise (i.e., "Sample Number")?
