Hello,

I'm contacting you because I haven't yet found a solution for :

  • Replace the Joomla contact form with the VirtueMart contact form.
  • Reduce the number of required fields by merging e-mail, username and displayed name. I only need the full name (surname and first name), e-mail address and country. The stritc needed for billing.

The aim is to make registration as simple as possible for the customer. Because I find it very complex.

Thank you in advance

Milbo

Hi Milbo,

Sorry, I was talinkg about the user registration form.

I'd like to be able to retrieve the user's First & Last Name and country when registering via Joomla, in order to retrieve them in VirtueMart. This way, the registered user doesn't have to specify this information (billing details) when validating the cart.

I think user registration might not be necessary for your store. I stopped using it a long time ago in my own store, and I must admit that allowing guest checkouts has proven to be a much simpler and more convenient solution. Since you're not running a large wholesale operation with a vast number of products, having user accounts might not bring much value to your business.

Allowing guest checkouts can reduce friction in the buying process, as many customers prefer to complete their purchase quickly without creating an account. This often leads to higher conversion rates because it removes barriers, such as the hassle of setting up and remembering login credentials.

Unless your store offers features that require registration—such as loyalty programs, purchase history, or personalized offers—it's worth considering whether user accounts add any tangible benefits. Simplifying the checkout process can make the shopping experience more user-friendly and improve overall customer satisfaction.

In Virtuemart settings, disable sales only for users - enable only for guests with fields in the form that you need. You will see - you will gain a lot from it.

Hello Hazael,

Thank you for your reply!

I only need the registration form for comments/reviews in my store. But I don't know if it's possible to activate it only for that and not for the shopping cart.

I just tried your solution. In the VirtueMart settings I've checked "No" to "Only registered users can order" and "Allow account creation when ordering?" but I can't find the "only guest" box you're talking about.

When validating the basket, I'm asked to save the billing information first, but it doesn't work because I'm also asked to fill in the "Displayed name" field, which is no longer displayed given my new settings.
