There have been a lot of threads about pricing and group pricing, but nothing seems to provide what I'm searching, although all of the threads are more than 10 years old and the information doesn't transfer to the current version. And, links in the threads are all dead to pages more than a few years old. So even if the instructions were close, there is no way to know.

I understand there is the "Category" discount that can be handled by "ghost" categories that are not published. Although no specific instructions can be found.

My pricing is based upon "Shopper Groups".
I have over 300 products in the site now. Eventually, there will be thousands.
Hence the reason to post this.
And, I "now" am discounting by category.

This would mean, whatever products you want to have discounted the same, put them in a "category". I have my products all in "Key Blank Search".

In "Taxes and Calculations", create a new calculation.
Name it whatever you wish.
Publish that.
Ordering = 0
Description = whatever you wish
Type of Arithmetic Operation = -% (this is if you are deducting by percentage)
Value = 0 (if you are using the Quantity Related Discounts plugin - if you are NOT, set this to 50 for a 50% discount )
Currency = you decide
Product Category = leave blank (be sure you read this - even though it's effecting 1 category, do not assign it to that category)
Shopper Groups = "name of Your Group for the discount"
You can leave the other settings, although you may want to add the date when the discount begins.

In the products, if you have a Parent and Children, you "MUST" have the settings correct here.
In the Parent, that must have "Categories" selected to whatever category you are using for the discount. In my case, the category is "Key Blank Search".
Also in the Parent, the "Rule(s) Affecting:" MUST also be "Apply generic rules".

For the Child (children), "Categories" MUST be BLANK!
For the Child "Rule(s) Affecting:" this, too MUST be "Apply generic rules".

Be sure to view the front end and see if you want to adjust the prices that display.

This took a great deal of time to figure out since there is no documentation "I" could find on this for the current VM version. I used AI to assist. But that only provided the basics. I had to do testing to figure out most of the above.
