How many products on the VM will proceed fluently?

How many products on the VM will proceed fluently? Can I add more than few thousands? 10k? There anybody knows how big and strong hosting I will need for it?

I have worked on sites with > 20K products ..  but the "strain" on the server comes from things like categories, custom fields etc .. i.e. filtering and searching etc
There is effectively no limit to the number of products VM can handle

so yes .. of course you need a decent server

I maintain a shop with 80k+ products, plus custom fields... and it's quite fast.
(It took a lot of tweaking and configuration to get there)

Our server is a VPS quad-core with 16GB RAM and SSD... The SSD is important.
The RAM I think is a bit overkill but doesn't hurt. 8GB minimum though.
We are on PHP 7.4.
