On my site I have a banner set to look just on the homepage.
Actually the banner does not appear on the other menu items.
But when I enter the detail of the product the banner appears.
Because the banner appears in the product details.

If you use shor URL for products, in the Virtuemart config, no menu are selected, this mean that all modules in homepage are displayed in your products.
If you want prevent this, you have to check about view=productdetails in your template and adjust the code to hide all modules that should not display
