Error when switching language in admin

Hi, I am getting an error when switching languages on the backend. When I try to edit a product or product category, I can see the language dropdown on the top left to switch the language. I try to switch it from English to Portuguese but nothing happens. I do see that I get this error in the Javascript console:

Failed to load resource: the server responded with a status of 500 (Table '****.#__virtuemart_categories_pt_br' doesn't exist SQL=SELECT `#__virtuemart_categories`.* ,`#__virtuemart_categories_pt_br`.*  FROM `#__virtuemart_categories` INNER JOIN `#__virtuemart_categories_pt_br` using (`virtuemart_category_id`) WHERE `#__virtuemart_categories`.`virtuemart_category_id` = "1")

I am using Joomla 3.5.1 and this tutorial is for Joomla 2.5.x, so I suppose this could be part of the problem. Maybe this tutorial is outdated? I run into the problem at step 10.

hey, before publishing multi-language status have you switched from 'site' to 'administrator' in the filter dropdown list (in 'Extensions' - 'Module Manager')??actually, you can make sure your joomla multilanguage setup is correct by checking out this tutorial..and after check this virtuemart page about multi-language setup

try using the 'Install or if necessary update tables' button in the VM Tools section
