Search has different results in 2 versions of Virtumart

Hello,
Recently a friend asked me to help him maintain his two eshops, so I came up with a strange situation.
The first eshop is based on VM  2.0.26d (older) and the second is 2.6.10. At the time we are using both until we are ready to completely move to the new one.
In the older one, in admin panel, products page, when I insert a keyword to search it includes all  the product fields. This is very helpful for me, since there are many cases when the keyword is in product's description, for instance. The second eshop returns fewer results (plz. note that it has the same db with the older one, in terms of information). This makes me think that for some reason it searches only the product title.
I looked around the settings and VM forum without luck.
Any ideas on what could go wrong with my setup. Is there any hack to make a wider search?

The versions are far too old to remember if that was an issue with 2.6.10.  Like so many things, updating to current secure versions often fixes "problems", and 2.6.22 is the last release in the VM2 series.
