Hello Troels

I got an email from Spyros telling me he is closing business and that ongoing licences will be honored until they expire.

Why don´t you contact spyros and ask him what he is offering his existing clients. In my oppinion he does not deserve :
Quote6 weeks before new year they had no problems accepting payments for an annual renewal though (guess they practice other ethics).

If You have an existing licence You should have received that email, have You checked Your spam ?

Please check facts next time before You fly off the handle

QuotePlease!! Who can reccommend a new light template to replace my useless newly bought EUR 71 purchase from olympiantemplates?

????  this is just silly.. Spyros's templates go from some of the best to useless just because he closes his business?

The main advantage of his templates are they are some of the most cleanest and stablest around..  they rarely if ever need updating .. mainly the only updates have been additional functionality and styling changes.
Just how difficult could it be to make any small update yourself IF this was ever required? As VM is very stable now and the days of radical change at the FE are over then I don't even see this being necessary.

I also received an email from Spyros announcing his decision..

I really do not like wordpress but I guess I better learn fast.. the final nail in the coffin for me unless I find a nice clean alternative to Hera template.
Unfortunately 3rd party VM support seems to go away fast as VM itself has matured and improved. Can't get even an up to date payment plugin from my gateway anymore, sucks :-(

You better stick with Joomla/VirtueMart.  ;)
From my experience the fluctuation of extensions and templates in WordPress is even worse and those available are more often low quality, meaning more site maintenance problems.

BTW - the templates I'm using with my own VM shops were abandoned by their french developer in 2018. Of course they are still working fine.

The templates are not abandoned! Updates and support are now available through https://extensions.virtuemart.net
I believe that taxation for small businesses in Greece has become a big issue and many have closed rather than hand all their income over to the state.

From Spyros' email:

"After the expiration of your subscription, you will be able to buy a new one only on https://extensions.virtuemart.net and you will receive updates and support for your new order directly from https://extensions.virtuemart.net. "

@Jörgen
I have edited my initial message.

I react only on the statement on his website and that I saw Olympianthemes templates are still sold here.
If you say he will still honor his sales thats great but it is not what he writes on his website and I have not gotten any emails from him telling me othervise, not in spam either. Last emails was 15.11.19 (invoice) and going a bit further back 30.09.19 when there was an update for Horne Pro.

@GJC
While the templates is still working as supposed to atm. there has been multiple bugfixes and adaptions to VM and Joomla made to the templates. Necessary ones that I would have had to pay other developers to fix if the author didn't do it. I would probably cost way more than the template itself every time something needed be done. That is the reason I buy templates and support.

You as a developer can neglect it all you want but MOST webshop owners are not developers.

@JJK
Yeah I suspect that other platforms sees some of the same problems, but they have some advantages I can get free updated payment plugins from the payment gateways, I can get shipping plugins etc. All something that I as the (I sometimes feel) last Danish VM user have to forget about or pay to have developed myself. These are standard free plugins on WP, presta, Magento etc. Especially the fact that no creditcard payment solution here in Denmarks has an updated plugin for VM3+ is crazy and I fear the day it just wont work with a VM update or something.

I have changed my original message to reflect what I am told by you guys.
Regarding taxation its around 26% in Greece for companies and 45% for individual income but yeah it might be easier to manage that way.

I am happy to hear that support and updates will continue but wonder why he did not write that on his website in his threads here etc. What to think when you did not get that email and the statement on his website is perfectly clear.

Also on the extensions site the link to olympianthemes forum is not working, there is no longer a forum unfortunately (which again mekes one think the listing is old an out of date)
