Some products are not shown in the backend

There are a some examples products in my shop I would like to remove. They appear in the frontend but not in the backend. I also searched through the database in phpMyAdmin but can't find them there either.

If I click on one of the products in the frontend, I get "Error 404".

You do not state your vesions or site history, but you will have to remove these from the database.  There is one report of this happening before:  http://forum.virtuemart.net/index.php?topic=128005

Thanks for the link. It was difficult to search in the database because the objects had no title or SKU. The objects were found in #_virtuemart_products with ID numbers 1-16.

The objects is removed and the problem is solved!

if they had 1-16 ids then definitely example products
All the more reason to start your projects CLEAN!  forget these quickstart things - they always cause problems
