csv product import not creating thumbnails

HI All

I have created a store with 1500 products already. I wanted to add more and received a product feed from the client. I have converted the feed to csv and used store manager to import the products. The problem I have is that the image thumbnails are not being created, i get the error: vmError: Couldnt create thumb, file not found. I went and added a thumnails category with the relevant thumbnail urls but still nothing. By the way, I am using an external url eg http://www.wholesalersite.com/products/images/img1_normal.png for the images and http://www.wholesalersite.com/products/images/img1_thumb.png as instructed by the wholesaler.

I am using VirtueMart 2.6.16, joomla 2.5.28, php 5.4.36, sql 5.5.42-cll

Please help, on a deadline.
