I've searched everywhere and not found a relevant answer: how do we customize the appearance of the breadcrumbs?
Some posts mention that it's called up in template.css (for Atomic template) - but it's not there. Do we simply call it up ourselves (in vmltr.css) and give it our own definitions?

Breadcrumbs is a Joomla module, nit part of VM. So you can use all the standard Joomla style methods, such as defining and applying a Module Class Suffix.
