Purchasing is a pain due to 4-5 step checkout process. How to simplify?

My new shop is running on VM2 and for the customer its a pain. I am seeing quite a few pending orders that dont get to "paid" status and I suspect its because some customers find it too difficult. Also I have had a few questions from customers on how to do this. So its a massive and urgent problem for me.

1 - Add to cart is ok and simple. Then the Cart page looks already complicated with notices like "no shipment selected etc" as the customer is not logged in or registered.
2 - Billing and shipment addresses have buttons side by side on the cart page and both must be completed separately. Is there a way to get rid of BILL TO section? And just to ask for shipping address (email address and tel cells must be added there)?
3- I have only one payment method available. But it still requires to check the button for this payment method and press the SAVE button to confirm the selected payment method. How to avoid this?

Thank you so much for your help!

HI,

There are a few options to simplify the cart :

eg here - http://extensions.virtuemart.net/products/cmsmart-one-page-checkout-detail

There are new extensions being developed by third party developers too.

JUst giving an example you might like to try..

or here ?

http://extensions.joomla.org/extensions/extension-specific/virtuemart-extensions/virtuemart-orders/25503

or paypal express- ?

I am suggesting only

Thanks for these, I will look into the details if these will solve my issues. Main question is that are they usable with my payment solution (local bank links solution plugin).

I use this One Page Checkout with several payment plugins and it works just fine with all:  http://www.virtueplanet.com/vp-one-page-checkout-detail

I have made some changes to the text used on the page using language overrides to make the checkout process as easy as possible to understand.  But if you have even fairly basic skills it is possible to change the checkout page simply by using template overrides. Several threads on this in the templating section of this forum
