Please assist. Current using Joomla 2.5.14 and Virtuemart 2.0.18a

We are using Virtuemart as an online showroom instead of online shop. We are having problems with the manufacturers not updating in the back end. Currently have various manufacturers duplicated in the button showing on the Product List. How do we remove those and ensure that only the updated and published Manufacturers show?

First, please update. http://forum.virtuemart.net/index.php?topic=118683.0  - latest version  http://virtuemart.net/news/latest-news/456-virtuemart-are-proud-to-release-vm2  Test on a backup of the site.

You may need to remove duplicated entries with phpMyAdmin

Jenkinhill,
We have been trying to avoid updating to a newer version as it takes a lot of work from our side to ensure that nothing goes wrong.
We updated on another site and had to redo every product.
Is there another way to fix this problem?
It is not a problem on the front end except if we allocate product to the duplicate manufacturer instead of the active one.
I have checked again and these duplicates do not exist in the Manufacturer section. It is only on the product section when you are loading a new product (selecting the manufacturer) or when looking at product list (drop down menu at the top).

Problem is that we don't use those versions anymore, even in testing, due to the known security issues. It is best to never try to avoid updating if your site uses insecure code that potentially can compromise your reputation (and give access to customer data were it a live shopping site), but I do understand what you are saying.

Obviously there has been a data error somewhere. It may be that the use of Install or if necessary update tables (under Tools) may resolve the db error - test on a backupof the site, otherwise  it will be a need to edit the db tables using phpMyAdmin.
