Hi Everyone,

I have been asked by a person looking to setup an online shop if XCART is better, they have been advised by others that XCART is better than Virtuemart but they have not been able to tell me why its better. Can anyone here shed any light on a differences between XCART and Virtuemart?

Obviously virtuemart works with Joomla which in my eyes is the biggest reason to use Virtuemart, are their other reasons to use Virtuemart and not XCART?

Thanks,

Nick

The most impressive reason is 39 mobile friendly VM themes available from various designers.

You really have to define your business requirements

technical capabilities of the people implementing the web shop

Then look at functional specifications of each platform and determine which meets your needs and skill sets.

There is no doubt that X-Cart is good (as is VirtueMart) but there are limitations and extra costs if you want to do something outside their normal features. I did go through an Xcart evaluation & comparison with the friend of one of my clients who wanted a store without a CMS! Her business eventually chose Actinic, and one of the reasons was the cost of doing what they actually would want to do with Xcart. The basic package they needed was about $400 and to that they needed to spend more than double that figure on additional modules to get the functions they thought they needed.

VM2 is cheap, very powerful, highly configurable and easily cutomised - but it does not suit everybody.

Thanks for this, I have given my argument for Virtuemart and hopefully it will have won! We will wait and see.
