Joomla administrator and VM administrator

Joomla 2.
Fairly new to joomla and very new to VM.

Am I right in thinking that I should use joomla! Administration when building my website pages such as contact us, about us and other general info pages but then use VM administrator when building pages which will contain my products? but can only see products and product categories in VM.  or do I use joomla admin to build all pages, menus etc and use VM to create products which are en linked to my joomla pages?   

I just want to start off in the right way so would appreciate some basic guidance or links to any tutorials which you could recommend.

Yes.

Check Components/Contacts, Article Manager and Menu Manager.
