How to add product images to search results

My theme for j2.5/vm2 uses the default search result page, which does not include product images and does include a bunch of non product info. How can we customize the results to show the image and only show products (as opposed to other pages/posts). Any guidance or direction would be appreciated. Thanks!

VM version?

Did you try on standard Joomla template?

VM2.0.22b uses part of the category display template, so shows only the products with their images.

I have been using an old search override theme and did not notice until someone pointed it out that the current default now includes images.
