Can't enter more than two Custom Field Values in 2.0.8e

We have been seeing similar issues in the forum, but our issue is unique to not being to add custom field values in a product:

Using Joomla 2.5.6 | VM 2.0.8e

Each of our products requires 132 instances of a custom field (Cart Variant).

Prior to upgrading to 2.0.8e, we were able to add all 132 fields and successfully save the additions.

Currently, when we add more than two or three, we get sent back to the VM 2 Dashboard, and the new fields are not saved.

We have tried many of the suggestions in related posts such as fixing the database from the extension manager and rebuilding the tables (if necessary) in the VM tools.

We also read that there may be a misconfiguration in the data field type in jom_session from text to mediumtext.

None of these recommendations have solved the problem. Clearly the issue is related to Joomla sessions, but we cannot figure out how to fix this.
