I have set up my Virtuemart to function in both Spanish and English. The Spanish version works fine, displaying only the Spanish categories and related products, however, the English frontpage shows both English and Spanish Categories.

How can I configure it so that each language only shows its corresponding categories and not both (like the English one).

Looking forward to your help. Thank you in advance!!

Regards,

Carlos

Maybe you forgot to set the language tag in some of your menu items to en for es.
Also, you may compare your setting to this: http://forum.virtuemart.net/index.php?topic=104901.0

Thank you for your prompt reply JJK.

The language tags on the menu items are fine - the Spanish products menu item is set to spanish and the english products menu item is set to english.

After checking on the VM categories, I noticed that when I set my Spanish product category to Spanish language and save, it automatically goes back to English. Perhaps this is the problem?

I find it odd because the Spanish products page displays only the spanish categories, as if recognizing that it is Spanish, but when I open up the category to look at the language setting, I see that it has gone back to English.

Are you aware of any solution to this?

Thank you for your help,

Carlos

Maybe your language tables are not correct, because you orginally started entering data into the wrong language table. You may compare your setting to this:

Thanks again JJK, however, I have now checked phpMyAdmin and all the Spanish tables were already there (as well as the english). It matches perfectly with the suggestion posted in the forum you referred me to.

Is there something else that may be causing this?

When you click on 'Save', VM2 always switches back to the language you have set as the default frontend language in the Joomla language manager. If your site language is set to English, it would switch back to English when you save your spanish category or product description. If you write a lot spanish text, you can set your default site language to Spanish in order to avoid returning to English.

Thank you for the explanation!

The original problem (and reason for this thread), however, is that the Spanish categories are appearing on the English VM FrontPage. Do you know any other reason why this may be happening?

I've already:

  • Checked PhpMyAdmin
  • Made sure the Menu Items are set to their respective Language

What else can it be?
