No Price- Custom fields and Add to Cart Button Disappear

I'm sure there is really simple solution to this but for the life of me I can't figure it out.
Two sites:
1.) Joomla 1.5.20 and VM 2.0.0

2.) Joomla 2.54. VM 2.0.6

On the first site, I have one product with price set to 0, and custom fields using cart variants to set up the prices
ie.

Quantity- 1- 10.00
                 More than 1- 8.00
This works perfectly fine

On second site, I am trying to achieve the same solution
Price null and custom fields set up for the price variations depending on the amount

However, when I set it up this way, with no price on second store, the custom fields and the Add to Cart button disappear.

What am I missing? Is there some option I need to select somewhere?

You could try setting the price to .00001.  It's so small that it won't effect any price/tax calculations but your Custom Fields and Add to Cart button will show...
