Extended Custom Attributes? Option to donate along with paying for product.

I can't find an updated version of this for VM2... Our website is for a ministry.  We would like people who purchase product to have the option to donate money along with paying the suggested product prices.  In VM1 we used the "Extended Custom Attributes" Hack to accomplish this.  There was a custom field and they entered in the dollar amount of how much they would like to give.  Is that hack still available in VM2?  Is there a better way to do this?

Here's the "donate" code used in the VM1 extended hack:
Donate(number)(To add a donation to the total, enter the extra dollar amount in the text box above.|title-below)
(0.00|1.00)

For others interested in this...I did correspond with Webgobe who currently still works with the "Extended Custom Attributes" hack for VM1.  He says to his knowledge there is not a hack he is aware of for VM2.   

So for my current website, any other ideas on how to add a donation with a product?  Whatever is easiest...it would be nice if there were a text box for customers to add a donation amount of their choice with the order.

I need the same sort of thing...would love to allow customers to make a donation to the organization when they check out. Or at least be able to add a donation as if it were a product.

I thought about creating a product named donate, and somehow recommending it everytime there's a product purchased.  But it may still be a little too confusing to explain that each "donate" product is worth $1.00 and to order 20 x "donates" if you want to add a $20.00 donation to the total.
