Product Atribute SKU?

I heavily modified VM 1.1 to do many things, one of which was to allow SKU's for product attributes so web orders could be directly imported into our accounts package with the correct SKU for the product attribute. Are there any plans for this to be added to VM2? If not, can it be written as a plugin or am I going to have to hack the core files again?
