Why order emails are sent before payment and download emails are not sent after

Hi,

Well i thought VM was great untill now.  When a customer orders a product they are sent the order email before the payment is even processed with paypal? The email show the order as 'pending'  Why is this?

Then, in the case of Downloads, when a transaction is successful (i.e. the money is in your paypal merchent account) the order status is not changed but remains on 'pending'.  If we change the settings in the paypal module to 'confirmed' for order status for pending orders we get the 'transaction error' message.
The fact that it is not changed means that all of the orders have to be confirmed manually and customers have to wait for their download links.

This really makes virtuemart totally useless, after spending about 6 months getting all the creases ironed out  I am a little upset

Don't know much about the download link proces, but this might help for the confirmation email beeing sent to early ...

Go to payment method list then select paypal.
make sure active box checked, then click on configuration tab and make sure test mode set to NO.

That should sort it out.
