cache error

I wanted to make some changes to my website and when I logged in as administrator I got this error:
"The file Cache Storage is not supported on this platform."

As I am not technically minded, firstly is this a problem from my side? 
Or is it something my hosting company should solve?

this is the first time I have had this issue and if it is my problem. how do I fix it? As I cannot even return to the 'control panel'
My site is a joomla / virtuemart site. I am using virtuemart 3.0.18 and joomla 3.6.2.

can anybody shed some light.

I am using virtuemart 3.0.18 and joomla 3.6.2.

Both your VM version and Joomla versions are out of date and may be a risk

Consider upgrading both of these (test that they are compatible with any templates/plugins you may be using)


Regarding cache - this is probably due to admin rights on server folders
