Thumbnail Creation and display

I have VM2 with Joomla 2.5 and when I create a product on my localhost, running windows 7 with xampp, everything works perfectly, but on the live server the images get uploaded but the thumbnail is not created and not displayed no error messages appear, VM says the upload was successful.  I've checked the image names to make sure they are all lower case directories are all fine and writable but no thumbnails?

Please help...

For lack of thumbnails  is the GD2 library compiled on the server?

Look in Joomla Site/System information and look on the PHP Information tab:
Look for gd section, this should show GD Version ......bundled (2.0.34 compatible)  (or similar)

Frankly if the site works perfectly on my localhost then i don't see why it can't work in the live environment, also most updates are security updates, very few or almost none have anything to do with my issue, thus upgrading is not the solution (might solve some other unknown issues, but not this one), here is my GD details:

The thumbs display OK both in category page and in priduct details, so I don't understand why you don't see them. Unless you mean you only don't see then in the backend?

Updating also fixes some bugs which may cause issues, and there are cases of older version sites having been hacked. Always better to be safe than see a carefully built site go down the pan together with the store's reputation.....  Test all updates first on a backup site as you may need to edit the template override files you are using.

They are displaying fine yes, because I created the site on my local machine and uploaded the finished product to the live server, now when I add a new product the thumbnails don't work, they still work on my local machine though...
